Ofgem has appointed EDF to take on customers of failed supplier Utility Point, while British Gas will take on customers of People's Energy.
Customers who have now found themselves customers of either EDF or British Gas will have all credit honoured, and are also advised not to switch themselves until they have been notified that their switch to either EDF or BG has been finalised.
It is also important to note the energy supply of these customers will in no way be interrupted as a result of their suppliers going bust.
Following EDF's absorption of Utility Point's customers, Neil Lawrence, Ofgem’s director of retail, said:
“I am pleased to announce we have appointed EDF as the new supplier for customers after Utility Point entered insolvency. We understand that this news may be unsettling for customers, however they do not need to worry. Their energy supply will continue as normal, and all customer credit balances held on their accounts will be protected by EDF."
A day later Mr Lawrence announced again that "we have appointed British Gas as the new supplier for customers after People’s Energy entered insolvency. We understand that this news may be unsettling for customers, however they do not need to worry. Their energy supply will continue as normal, and all domestic customer credit balances held on their accounts will be protected by British Gas."
