E.ON Next’s sustainability
E.ON Next’s tariffs are all powered by 100% renewable electricity. All the energy used for business and home tariffs are sourced using renewable generation assets, supply agreements with independent UK wind generators, while also purchasing renewable electricity certificates.
Renewable energy certificates, or Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs), are certificates that proves the electricity E.ON Next uses comes from renewable sources. An energy generator is given one REGO for each megawatt hour of electricity they produce. 100% of E.ON Next’s electricity comes from either wind, solar or hydro.
Essentially, E.ON Next makes sure the energy they take from the national grid is produced using renewable sources, and the REGO certificates ensure that this is the case. They also own biomass plants in Lockerbie and Sheffield, which together creates enough energy to power 100,000 homes in the UK.
